KIDO Desk Moving and Relocation Guide
Move it safely and get it working again right away
The KIDO Desk is a piece of furniture with a precision electric mechanism. When rearranging a room or moving house, follow the steps in this guide to move the desk safely. After moving, you must initialize the lifting system again.
Before Moving
1. Remove Everything from the Tabletops
- Remove monitors, PC peripherals, desk lamps and all other items
- Empty the drawer as well (to prevent the center of gravity from shifting and the contents from falling out during the move)
2. Lower the Tabletops to the Lowest Position
Lower both tabletops (front and rear) to their lowest position.
- This lowers the center of gravity and makes the desk more stable during the move
- Carrying the desk with the tabletops raised puts lateral load on the lifting columns and can damage them
3. Unplug the Power Plug
After lowering the tabletops to the lowest position, unplug the power plug from the wall outlet.
4. Disconnect the Cables
- Pull the cables of the devices on the tabletop out through the cable holes
- Remove the power strip from the cable-management hub
- If the control box power cable is secured inside the hub, it can stay there
- Bundle the cables inside the hub so they do not hang down and catch on anything during the move
5. Close the Cable Cover
Close the cable cover securely so that parts inside the hub do not fall out during the move.
How to Move the Desk
Rearranging a Room (Short-Distance Moves)
- Lift and move the desk with at least 2 people
- Hold the lower part of the leg frames (do not hold the tabletops)
- Do not drag the desk across the floor — this damages the leveling feet and the floor
- Check the width of doors and hallways along the route in advance
Moving House (Relocating to a New Address)
If you hire a moving company, give them the following instructions.
Instructions for the movers:
- “This is an electric height-adjustable desk. Do not lay it on its side.”
- “Carry it by the leg frames, not by the tabletops.”
- “Do not apply lateral force to the lifting columns (the vertical posts of the legs).”
- “Protect the display of the desk panel (the panel on the side of the tabletop) with cushioning material.”
- “It contains electronics. Keep it out of the rain.”
Packing tips:
- Protect the display of the desk panel (DPI1C) with cushioning material
- Protect the corners of the tabletops with cushioning material (natural wood chips easily on impact)
- Tape the cable cover shut temporarily so it does not open
Setting Up at the New Location
1. Check the Installation Location
- Place the desk on a flat, stable floor
- Leave enough space around the desk for it to move up and down (above, below and at the sides)
- Make sure a wall outlet is within reach
- Avoid direct sunlight and direct airflow from air conditioners
2. Connecting the Power
- Place the desk in its new location
- Check that the desk is level and does not wobble
- Put the power strip in the hub and plug in the control box
- Plug the power strip into the wall outlet
- Check that the desk panel displays light up
3. Initialize Again (Required)
After moving, you must initialize the lifting system again. If you do not, height adjustment and collision detection (PIEZO) may not work properly.
Initialize both the front tabletop and rear tabletop desk panels.
Initialization steps:
- Tilt the paddle “down” and hold
- When the tabletop reaches its lowest position, release the paddle
- Within 10 seconds, tilt the paddle “down” again and hold
- The tabletop lowers slightly, then rises approx. 5 mm (0.2 in) and stops
- Do not release the paddle until all movement has completely stopped
Collision detection is completely disabled during initialization. Always make sure there are no people, pets or obstacles under or around the desk before you start.
4. Check Operation and Reset Settings
- Check that both tabletops raise, lower and stop normally
- Check that the height shown on the display matches the actual height (calibrate if it does not)
- Set the height limits (upper and lower) again
5. Reconnect the Cables
- Route the device cables (see the Cable Management Guide)
- Run a height adjustment test and check that no cables are pulled tight
What Not to Do
| Do not | Reason |
|---|---|
| Lay the desk on its side | Damage to the lifting columns and control box |
| Carry the desk by the tabletops | Excessive load on the joints between the tabletops and the frame |
| Apply lateral force to the lifting columns | Damage to the internal mechanism of the columns |
| Move the desk with the tabletops raised | High center of gravity makes it unstable and puts lateral load on the columns |
| Carry it outdoors in the rain without protection | Water damage to electronic components and water stains on the tabletops |
| Use the desk after moving without initializing it | Faulty height adjustment and false collision detection |
If Problems Occur After Moving
| Symptom | Solution |
|---|---|
| Tabletop does not move | Check the power connection and initialize again |
| Unusual noise | Stop using the desk and contact Shimizu Zaimokuten |
| Tabletop wobbles | Check that the floor is level. If this does not help, contact Shimizu Zaimokuten |
| Cracks or scratches in the wood | See the Natural Wood Care Guide |
